Virtual worlds, Second Life especially, can be daunting places. At times, they feel more like a lawless frontier than a place to do business.
As an example, look at what you have to contend with on a daily basis in Second Life: Griefing, avatars, roleplaying, server crashes, exploits, identity spoofing, IP theft, amateur content, constant system patching, entrenched “local” businesses, flashmobs, unauthorized copying… the list could go on for pages.
This list, however, best represents Web 3.0; the next step in visualizing how we as a society communicate and do business.
Is this any place to do business, much less succeed?
Yes.
At the end of 2007, Second Life will have an internal economy valued at $US 350 million. In any given 24 hour period, almost $2 million is spent on virtual items, real estate, and services. Residents of virtual worlds spend hours creating and socializing. They create their own brands, create their own experiences, and share them with others. They avoid overt “outside” commercialism, cynical marketing, and corporate pandering.
A company that can leverage these unique traits of Second Life while avoiding the potential pitfalls can succeed in the chaotic marketplace and get their message heard.
Digeridoo Designs can help companies with that goal. With over 4 years of practical experience inside Second Life, I have seen and participated in nearly all aspects of the Second Life community. I have practical building experience with over one hundred projects completed. I have worked with clients ranging from tiny startups to Fortune 500 companies. I know how to navigate the insanity of the world’s fastest growing digital destination.
I offer building services, general business consulting, limited texture work, and limited machinima abilities. I work best integrated into a business’s team, assisting them in getting the job done right.
